MAP AND COORDINATE SUPERVISOR OC & PR

 

 

1.     COMPUTER-ASSISTED DRAFTING (CAD), COMPUTER-ASSISTED MAPPING AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) TECHNOLOGIES-These questions test for knowledge of the basic concepts, terminology and proper procedures to use when creating technical drawings, site plans and various types of maps utilizing GIS and computerized drafting and map design software.

 

2.     PREPARATION AND INTERPRETATION OF PROPERTY MAPS AND PLANS-These questions test for the ability to read, analyze, and perform computations based on real property and topographic maps and site development and construction project plans; and for knowledge of the proper principles and procedures used to prepare various maps and plans related to survey projects, including computerized mapping applications.

 

3.     LEGAL REQUIREMENTS RELATED TO PROPERTY LINE BOUNDARIES, INCLUDING TITLE SEARCHES-These questions test for knowledge of the legal terminology, documents, and property description requirements involved in boundary and ownership issues related to real property and land acquisition.

 

4.     MATHEMATICS RELATED TO SURVEYING PROJECTS, INCLUDING ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY AND TRIGONOMETRY-These questions test for the ability to read and analyze surveying and other related problems and perform calculations that may involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, algebraic equations, geometric concepts and figures, and basic trigonometric functions.

 

5.     TERRESTRIAL AND GEODETIC SURVEYING-These questions test for knowledge of the principles, practices, and computations used when performing surveys for land areas, control networks, and construction projects, including map projections, coordinate systems, datum, GPS, and their applications to land surveys; and procedures involved in surveys applicable to establishing control networks, project control, and the position and publication of terrain data.

 

6.     ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION-These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in directing the activities of a large subordinate staff, including subordinate supervisors. Questions relate to the personal interactions between an upper level supervisor and his/her subordinate supervisors in the accomplishment of objectives. These questions cover such areas as assigning work to and coordinating the activities of several units, establishing and guiding staff development programs, evaluating the performance of subordinate supervisors, and maintaining relationships with other organizational sections.

 

The New York State Department of Civil Service has not prepared a test guide for this examination. However, candidates may find information in the publication 'General Guide to Written Tests' helpful in preparing for this test.
