VACANCIES

The eligible list for this title will be used to fill one current vacancy in the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.

DUTIES

An employee in this class has the overall responsibility for the administrative functions of the Suffolk County Jail Medical Units (JMUs). Work entails administrative oversight and coordination of all actions, preventive and therapeutic, taken to ensure the physical well-being of the inmate population in the County’s correctional facilities, including the quality and accessibility of medical services in collaboration with personnel responsible for behavioral health, pharmacy, dental, and ancillary services.  The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment in the development and implementation of programs and policies designed to improve the quality and accessibility of health services provided to inmates.  Administrative supervision is exercised over all staff assigned to the JMUs.  Work is reviewed by an administrative supervisor in central office of the Division of Patient Care Services within the Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS).  Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master's Degree* in a field related to health care (e.g. medicine, dentistry, nursing, etc.), and six (6) years of administrative experience in a hospital, nursing home, correctional medical facility, or similar institution that provides health services.

Necessary Special Requirement

At the time of appointment and during employment in this title, employees will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.

SCOPE OF THE EXAMINATION

There will be no written or oral test for this examination.  Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience against the background of the duties of the position.  Please prepare a complete summary of your relevant education and experience for the position.

In your summary of training include a copy of your college transcript(s)* showing all college degrees.

In your summary of experience describe fully each relevant position you have held during the past ten (10) years.  Give the type of organization and your place within it.  Give a clear and precise description of your principal duties and responsibilities.  Include the percent of work time that you normally devote to each.

Applications may be supplemented by a resume, but submission of a resume does not relieve a candidate of the responsibility for completing all sections of the official application.  To receive credit for experience on a job, basic information such as your title, name and address of employer, title of supervisor, hours in the work week, dates of employment (including month and year), final salary, etc., must be shown.

Be as concrete and specific as possible in your summary of training and experience; ambiguity and vagueness will not be resolved in favor of the candidate.  Additional information concerning a candidate’s training and experience will not be accepted after the application has been rated.  Rank on the eligible list will be determined by the training and experience evaluation, plus veteran’s credits if applicable.
