1.      ASBESTOS MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS -  These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices involved in asbestos remediation and control programs, including knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with asbestos as well as Federal and State laws, rules and regulations pertaining to asbestos containment or removal.

 

2.      INSPECTION AND INTERVIEWING TECHNIQUES -  These questions test your ability to select the proper course of action in situations which might occur during routine inspections. Question topics may cover, but will not be limited to, such areas as interviewing, gathering information and evidence, maintaining proper attitude, and handling irregularities and violations with integrity and sound judgment. Some questions may be in a situational format while others may deal with the proper principles and practices of inspection.

 

3.      OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY INCLUDING ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND CONTROL -  These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational health and safety and accident prevention and control including such areas as causes of accidents, accident rates, behavior and attitudes of workers and supervisors, accident investigations and interviewing techniques, and types of accident prevention and safety programs.

 

4.      PREPARING WRITTEN MATERIAL -  These questions test for the ability to present information clearly and accurately, and to organize paragraphs logically and comprehensibly. For some questions, you will be given information in two or three sentences followed by four restatements of the information. You must then choose the best version. For other questions, you will be given paragraphs with their sentences out of order. You must then choose, from four suggestions, the best order for the sentences.

 

5.      PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING  -  These questions test for the knowledge and abilities used to develop and deliver training. They address topics such as the assessment of training needs, instructional design, training methods and techniques, training aids and materials, motivation, learning theory, classroom management, and the evaluation of learning outcomes.

 

6.      UNDERSTANDING AND INTERPRETING WRITTEN MATERIAL -  These questions test how well you comprehend written material. You will be provided with brief reading selections and will be asked questions about the selections. All the information required to answer the questions will be presented in the selections; you will not be required to have any special knowledge relating to the subject areas of the selections.

 

7.      ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND CONTROL -  These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices of accident prevention and control and may cover such areas as causes of accidents, accident rates, behavior and attitudes of workers and supervisors, accident investigations and interviewing techniques, and types of accident prevention and safety programs.

 

8.      STATUTORY AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS RELATING TO OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY, EXCLUDING BUILDING SAFETY -  These questions are designed to test the candidates' knowledge of those State and Federal laws, rules and regulations that pertain to worker safety and health practices. Questions may be drawn from, but are not limited to, O.S.H.A. and New York State Department of Labor safety and health regulations.

 

9.      SUPERVISION  -  These questions test for knowledge of the principles and practices employed in planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of a work unit toward predetermined objectives. The concepts covered, usually in a situational question format, include such topics as assigning and reviewing work; evaluating performance; maintaining work standards; motivating and developing subordinates; implementing procedural change; increasing efficiency; and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale, and discipline.
