STENOGRAPHER
(SPANISH SPEAKING) 0030
DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct supervision, an employee in this class performs routine stenographic work and related general office duties. The work differs from that of a stenographer in that the incumbent is also responsible for communicating with the department. Work primarily involves taking routine shorthand, dictation and transcribing notes into typewritten form, although the amount of time spent on these activities varies considerably among positions. Work also requires the performance of clerical duties which follow well established procedures that can be learned by on-the-job training. Detailed instructions and close supervision are received at the beginning of work and on new assignments, although regular routine assignments may be performed more independently, and more initiative and judgment are utilized as experience is gained. Performance is subject to close supervision and is reviewed by a superior upon completion for both content and accuracy. Does related work as required.
