TRAFFIC
COURT ADMINISTRATOR 0059
Under general supervision, an employee in this class assists the Director in the administrative operation of
the Traffic & Parking Violations Agency, relieving the Director of a wide variety of management details. The incumbent must be able to evaluate
policies and procedures and exercise independent judgment and initiative. Supervision may be exercised over a number of
professional and clerical personnel, and work is reviewed by an administrative
supervisor through conferences and implementation of policies. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Assists the Director of
the Traffic & Parking Violations Agency
in all administrative matters, including budget preparation, personnel
selection/assignment, development of appropriate management procedures, and
oversight of daily functioning;
Oversees
all staff to ensure efficiency, while maintaining high standards of customer
service;
Develops
procedures for the collection of revenue and associated statistical reports for
the department;
Supervises the recording and reconciliation of traffic and parking
tickets;
Prepares
revenue reports, Red Light Safety Program reports, and accident statistics;
Assists the Director in managing
special projects;
Ensures that established policies and procedures are
implemented;
Assists
in the development of short range and long range goals for the operation of the
Agency;
Reviews, evaluates, and improves
departmental procedures.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the methods and techniques of
office management, organization and supervision; thorough knowledge of the
principles and practices of financial administration, budgeting, and public
administration; thorough knowledge of traffic court rules and regulations; thorough
knowledge of the sources of information, methods and techniques used in
administrative research; thorough knowledge of modern office equipment and
supply requirements; ability to rapidly acquire a thorough knowledge of the
legal, administrative and procedural regulations applicable to the department;
ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a large staff in a manner
conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to develop effective
office procedures; ability to promote and maintain effective departmental and
public relations; ability to recognize and solve problems; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both
orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized
accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree and six (6)
years of administrative experience, at least four (4) of which were in a
traffic court or traffic agency; or,
(b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or
possession of a high school equivalency
diploma, and ten (10) years of administrative experience, at least four (4) of
which were in a traffic court or traffic agency; or,
(c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as
defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
