DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs the work
of a Secretary as vested under Article 3, Section 30 of the General Municipal Laws
of the State of New York. The Fire
District Secretary shall have custody of all the records of the fire
district. The incumbent shall attend
and record minutes of regular and special district meetings, receive and answer
all correspondence and have additional powers and perform such additional
duties as the Board of Fire Commissioners may determine. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Takes minutes at
meetings, as well as types and posts them;
Receives and answers all
correspondence, and maintains appropriate files as necessary;
Makes reports to
federal, state and local authorities regarding insurance, pension, disability
rosters and injuries.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of Fire Department routines, functions, terminology of
equipment and procedures; good knowledge of English, spelling and arithmetic;
good knowledge of record keeping, recording and filing; skill in speed writing
or shorthand and typing at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to understand
and carry out complex written and oral instructions; ability to establish and
maintain an effective relationship with the Board of Fire Commissioners,
volunteer fire personnel employees and the general public; ability to compose
routine letters and memoranda; physical condition commensurate with the demands
of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in the exempt jurisdictional class; therefore, there
are no minimum qualifications.
