DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE
CLASS
Under general supervision, an
employee in this class operates various pieces of equipment used in the
production of microfilm. The incumbent
performs all tasks necessary to insure that information has been recorded
according to standard operations procedure.
Direction may be exercised over lower level personnel within the unit in
the absence of the Senior Micrographics Technician. Work is supervised by a
Senior Micrographics Technician through review for legibility of the finished
product and for adherence to pre-established time schedules. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Operates
and maintains all equipment, such as cameras, processors, printers and
duplicators, used by the unit in the production of microfilm records;
Prepares
documents for microfilming to ensure quality of images and to facilitate
retrieval;
Makes
quality control checks to see that the film is within acceptable quality
limits;
Mixes
and replenishes processing chemicals as needed;
Makes
minor equipment and technical adjustments according to established procedures
and based on specific instructions.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES,
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the principles
of modern photography as they apply to microfilming procedures; good knowledge
of the chemicals and solutions used in film and in standard darkroom
procedures; good knowledge of methods used in the conversion of developed film,
and copies thereof, to the appropriate microfilm; skill in the operation of
microfilm machinery; ability to follow moderately complex instructions
concerning procedures and technical work programs; ability to follow written
and oral instructions regarding the operation of microfilm systems; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either:
(a)
Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school
equivalency diploma, and three (3) years of experience in the operation of
micrographic equipment,
NOTE: One (1) year of education at a
New York State or regionally accredited college or university will be
substituted for one (1) year of experience; or,
(b)
One (1) year of experience as a Senior Micrographics Operator or as a Microfilm
Operator.
