DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE
CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for insuring the safety and good working order of the machinery in the unit, overseeing the proper execution of "housekeeping" chores, and maintaining adequate supplies. Work involves the responsibility for supervising various technical and clerical employees engaged in converting official records and documents into designated microforms. The nature of the work is such that the incumbent may be required to operate any or all of the division's equipment. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative supervisor; and is reviewed for quality and legibility of the unit's finished products and for adherence to pre-established time schedules. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises
micrographics division personnel in the operation of the various equipment used
in filming, developing and microfilm preparation;
Supervises
the preparation of documents for microfilming to ensure quality of images and
to facilitate retrieval;
Assigns
and schedules the work of lower level micrographics unit personnel and
maintains quality and production controls;
Supervises
the maintenance of inventory control, reorder procedures and time and performance records of personnel
in the unit;
Instructs
lower level personnel in the care and operation of new equipment introduced
into the unit's systems inventory;
Makes
minor repairs and adjustments to equipment which are necessary to insure its
safe and efficient operation;
May
operate any or all of the division's equipment.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES,
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in compiling comprehensive and
high quality microfilm microforms; thorough knowledge of the principles of
photographic equipment as used in the micrographics operations; good knowledge
of modern office methods, practices and techniques; skill in the operation of
microfilm machinery; ability to understand and interpret technical
instructions; ability to instruct lower level personnel in the operation of
microfilm equipment; ability to plan, assign and direct the work of a unit in a
manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to compile and
maintain accurate records and prepare oral and written reports; good judgment;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Either:
a)
Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university
with an Associate's Degree, and two (2) years of experience in the operation of
micrographics equipment; or,
b)
Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high
school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of experience in the operation
of micrographic equipment; or,
c)
An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits
of a) and b).
PROMOTIONAL
Either:
(a) One (1) year of permanent status as a
Micrographics Technician; or,
(b)
Two (2) years of permanent status
as a Microfilm Operator; or,
(c)
Two (2) years of permanent status
as a Senior Micrographics Operator.
