DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general direction, an employee in this class is responsible for assisting in the administra­tion and technical direction of a large staff of micrographics technical and clerical personnel.  The work involves responsibility for assuring optimum utilization of personnel and equipment through the maintenance of accurate production records. The incumbent assists in planning, scheduling and coordinating the production facilities in the micrographics area.  The nature of the work is such that the incumbent is required to exercise considerable initia­tive and judgment in the execution of assigned duties.  Supervision is exercised over technical and clerical employees. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Micrographics Manager, and is reviewed through conferences and the submission of required reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Plans, assigns, coordinates and reviews the work of micro­graphics division personnel;

          Prepares required workload and progress reports;

          Assists in the evaluation of existing procedures to insure the smooth flow of work within the division, and to assure optimum utilization of staff and equipment;

          Maintains records of the production rate of the units, and the receiving, processing and distribution of work received from other County departments;

          Inspects equipment and machinery within the unit to insure safety and optimum equipment usage.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of micrographics operation; thorough knowledge of the equipment and machinery used in the divi­sion's various operations; good knowledge of modern developments, current literature and sources of information in the micrographics field; good knowledge of modern office methods, practices and techniques; good knowledge of effective supervisory techniques, ability to compile and maintain accurate reports; ability to plan, assign and direct the work of technical and clerical personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          OPEN COMPETITIVE

          Either:

          (a)Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, and three (3) years of experience in micrographics operation, at least two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or,       

          (b)Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and seven (7) years of experience in micrographics operations, at least two (2) years of which were in a supervisory capacity; or,

          (c)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the

limits of (a) and (b).

 

NOTE:  No substitution may be made for the supervisory experience.

                                                                              

PROMOTIONAL

    Two (2) years of permanent competitive status as a Senior Micrographics Technician.
