FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general
supervision, an employee in this class performs a variety of duties related to
the operation of a fire department facility. The incumbent's duties
proportionately include dispatching, maintenance, minor clerical duties,
mechanical and custodial functions as directed by the Board of Fire
Commissioners or its designee. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Operates two-way radio systems or other
communications systems for a fire district;
Receives and transmits communications from
the public and agencies requesting emergency fire and ambulance services;
Maintains fire equipment and building
facilities;
Performs custodial services in and around
a firehouse;
Maintains a dispatch log and performs
other routine clerical duties as assigned;
May be asked to drive district vehicles
for servicing and maintenance.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Through knowledge
of the procedures used in receiving and dispatching calls for emergency
assistance; skill in maintaining fire vehicles and building facilities; skill
in operating a two-way communications system; ability to remain calm while
taking and recording information from persons who may be in a highly emotional
state; ability to follow oral and/or written directions; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS

as determined by the appointing authority.
The certificate, if required, must be obtained within six (6) months of
the date of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment in this
