FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct supervision, an employee in this class gains practical experience in the auditing of financial and accounting records of a municipal jurisdiction or department. The methods to be used in assignments are well defined and incumbents are expected to develop their professional ability during the training period. After one (1) year of continuous service as a permanent competitive Auditor Trainee with the municipality or department, the incumbent in this title achieves permanent competitive status as an Auditor. Work is reviewed for completeness of accounting documents, verification of financial transaction reconciliations and review of detailed statements and reports. Does related work as required.

ACTIVITIES
Assists in preparing audit reports
and making recommendations for changes and improvements in accordance with
findings;
Examines accounting records to
assure validity and legality of transactions;
Verifies accuracy of recorded
transactions and reconciles accounts;
Verifies vouchers, purchase orders
and inventories;
Corrects errors and deviations from
regular procedures;
Prepares work papers and reports of
audit findings.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of
accounting principles and procedures and the ability to apply such knowledge to
auditing accounting records; good knowledge of the principles and procedures
governing the auditing of financial records; working knowledge of office
methods and procedures and familiarity with the use of standard office
equipment; working knowledge of electronic data processing as applied to
accounting operations and auditing procedures; ability to prepare complete and
accurate work papers and audit reports; ability to perform detailed work
involving written or numeric data and to make arithmetic calculations rapidly
and accurately; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a
Bachelor's Degree, which includes, or is supplemented by, at least twenty-four
(24) credit hours in Accounting.
