DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in
this class assists in the development, implementation and administration of
criminal justice programs. An employee in this class performs professional and
technical duties, which include the planning, coordinating and monitoring of
criminal justice programs. Supervision
is exercised over subordinate personnel and is received from the Chief Planner
(Criminal Justice) or other administrative-level supervisor. Work is performed
under general supervision and is reviewed through conferences and written
reports. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Develops plans for implementation of criminal justice programs including budgetary needs and timetables;
Coordinates and administers program
requirements such as contract adjustments, sub-contracts, approval of personnel
and submission of reports;
Monitors and evaluates the operation
of funded programs;
Coordinates the activities of funded
projects with related governmental departments and functions;
Provides technical assistance in the
areas of project conception, grant applications and implementation processes to
prospective applicants;
Serves as liaison with Federal, State
and local governmental agencies concerning program administration,
substantiation and accountability;
Develops public and private funding
sources.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge
of the principles, practices and techniques of planning and implementing
criminal justice programs; good knowledge of the techniques and methods of data
collection and analyses; some knowledge of public administration; ability to
establish and maintain effective cooperative relationships with civic leaders,
department heads and public officials; ability to plan and supervise the work
of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
ability to write clear and accurate reports; ability to express ideas clearly
and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with
the demands of the position.
OPEN COMPETITIVE
(a)
Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or
registration by NY State with a Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of
professional level experience in social program management and/or
administration, one (1) year of which must have been in the administration and/or
management of programs serving criminal justice populations; or,
(b) A Master’s Degree in Social Work,
Public Administration, or related discipline from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State and one (1) year
of experience in the administration and/or management of programs
serving criminal justice populations.
