DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under the general supervision of the Marine Operations Manager, an employee in this class performs routine financial transactions aboard a ferryboat.  The employee is responsible for the receiving, depositing, and reporting of monies.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Transfers small, valuable freight items and medicine to freight agents;

          Sells tickets after preparing applicable charges;

          Records the license plate numbers of vehicles transported;

          Prepares cash reports for each one-way trip;

          Collects tickets at the termination of each one-way trip;

          Assists in operation of ferryboat as required by Captain;

          Maintains petty cash funds and records; collects cash reports and receipts

from freight agents;

          Deposits daily receipts from ferryboats and terminals in a designated bank in Connecticut;

          Delivers bank deposit receipts and daily cash reports to Ferry District office.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of arithmetic; good knowledge of vessel loading and relative equipment; good knowledge of toll collecting and equipment used; good knowledge of shipboard regulations and policies; good knowledge of life-saving and fire-fighting equipment; ability to act quickly and effectively during emergencies; ability to maintain accurate reports; ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          NON COMPETITIVE

          Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
