DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class supervises and participates in the activities of Scale Operators and others engaged in the weighing of vehicles at a municipal facility, the determination of vehicle classification, the estimation and collection of fees and the issuance of receipts. The incumbent receives supervision from a person responsible for the operation of the facility through observation of work performed, consultation and review of records maintained. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises
and participates in the activities of Scale Operators and Cashiers at a
municipal highway yard;
Weighs
vehicles on a computerized scale system;
Records the weight of materials issued from the yard
for inventory control and charge-back purposes;
Determines
the amount of fees;
Collects
fees and issues receipts;
Reconciles receipts for bank
deposits;
Develops
improved programs and procedures for weighing vehicles and establishing fee
schedules;
Responsible
for scale house equipment;
Prepares
summary reports of receipts and tonnage;
May
schedule Scale Operators; train new personnel.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,
ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of basic arithmetic as
it relates to the calculation of weights; skill in the operation of cash
registers and scales used in the weighing of vehicles; ability to supervise
personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to
make rapid and accurate arithmetic computations; ability to maintain a variety
of routine clerical records; ability to receive cash and make change with
accuracy and speed; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

COMPETITIVE
Three
(3) years of experience in the weighing of vehicles to determine the charges
and verify nature of the contents.
PROMOTIONAL
Two
(2) years of permanent competitive status as a Scale Operator.
