DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under direct supervision, an employee in this class assists in gathering technical information and data for the preparation of Federal and State Aid Claims, prepares preliminary reports and gathers information needed by higher-level personnel.  The incumbent works closely with supervisors in learning all aspects of the work, but with increasing knowledge and expertise may work with more independence on the more routine tasks.  Problems encountered are referred to a supervisor for direction and guidance.  Work is reviewed by an employee of higher rank through frequent consultation and examination of work performed.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Prepares Federal and State Aid Claims for reimbursement, assuring maximum utilization of governmental aid programs;

            Maintains up-to-date records on revenues and special projects as assigned;

            Communicates with County operating departments on a day-to-day basis to acquire necessary data and documentation;

            Verifies and updates financial information for expenditures and revenues.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of statistical and research concepts and methods; ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with co-workers and with officials in outside departments and agencies; ability to analyze and evaluate data and to prepare reports; ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Either:

            a)  Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a  Bachelor's Degree; or,  

           

            b)  Two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, college study from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university, and two (2) years of  experience in Federal and State aide claims preparation, accounting, finance or business administration; or,

           

            c)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
