DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class
performs the work of Treasurer as vested under Article 11, Section 177 of Town
Law of New York State and fulfills the requirements of Article 3, Section 30 of
the General Municipal Laws of the State of New York. The Fire District Treasurer has custody of all the financial
records and books of the fire district and has the responsibility for the
receipt, recording and disbursement of all monies belonging to the Fire
District. The work is supervised by the
Board of Fire Commissioners through conferences and reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Records and
maintains ledgers, accurately posting and reconciling accounting figures as
required by law;
Receives,
deposits, and disburses monies for purchase orders, payroll, and Federal and
New York State withholding;
Prepares financial
reports for Federal, State and local authorities, and Fire Commissioners as
required by laws and policies of the Fire District;
Prepares
all Fire District financial records for periodic audits by the Board of Fire
Commissioners, a Certified Public Accountant, or the New York State Department
of Audit and Control, and submits reports of outside audits to the Board of
Fire Commissioners;
Issues
reports on bank balances, itemized deposits and withdrawals to the Board of
Fire Commissioners.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the various laws relating to financial
records of a Fire District; good knowledge of arithmetic and ledger posting;
good knowledge of bookkeeping, recording and filing; ability to understand and
carry out complex written and oral instructions; ability to establish and
maintain an effective relationship with the Board of Fire Commissioners,
volunteer fire personnel, and the public; physical condition commensurate with
the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in the exempt jurisdictional class;
therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.
