DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is
responsible for maintaining an accurate record of the finances of a School
District per powers vested under the section the Education Law of New York
State appropriate to that district. The
incumbent performs the financial and bookkeeping duties for the School Board
and has responsibility for the receipt, disbursement and recording of all
monies belonging to the district. Work
is performed under the supervision of the School Board and is reviewed through
periodic reports and verification of financial records and statements. Accounting records may also be subject to
audit by an outside auditing agency.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Receives from the County Treasurer all
public monies apportioned to the district;
Prepares periodic and annual district
financial reports;
Disburse funds upon order of the School
Board to pay district salaries, expenses and financial obligations;
Operates adding, calculating and other
standard office machines.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,
ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping
principles and practices including the setting up and balancing of subsidiary
and general ledger accounts; good knowledge of the methods used in preparing
financial and statistical reports; good knowledge of standard office methods
and practices, ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately;
ability to apply bookkeeping principles to the setting up and maintenance of
fiscal and accounting records; ability to learn the laws, regulations and
procedures as they relate to school district finances; ability to follow oral
and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of
the position.

This position is in the exempt class;
therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.
