DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under the direction of an Examiner IV or V, an employee in this class administers Civil Service examinations to the public.  The Examiner III is usually assigned to a classroom or other specialized exam setting and is responsible for administering a Civil Service exam to a small group of people.  The Examiner III may be responsible for directing the activities of subordinate Examiners assisting in the administration of an exam.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Administers a variety of Civil Service examinations;

          Distributes and collects examination papers for written examinations;

          Maintains security of examination material and reports any unusual occurrences;

          Follows written instructions for examination administration and directs candidates in following procedures;

          Checks attendance against a room list and verifies identity of candidates.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the standard procedures used in proctoring and administering Civil Service examinations; ability to follow complex written and oral instructions; ability to communicate instructions effectively to examination candidates; ability to administer a Civil Service examination in a professional and objective manner; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree; or,

          Some work experience in the administration of examinations is desirable.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Availability to work on Saturdays.
