DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class is responsible for formulating oral or written examination questions in the employee's area of competence and rating a candidate's response to such questions.  On an oral examination, the Examiner VI is required to make objective judgments of the candidate's performance based upon established criteria.  Reviews candidate's performance on oral examinations with other examiners and determines final rating of candidate.  Reviews appeals of such ratings as required.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Evaluates oral examination candidates as part of an examination panel by asking previously formulated questions and carefully noting and rating candidate's response to such questions;

          Determines candidate's final score based on established criteria;

          Formulates test questions in a particular area of specialty;

          Assists in evaluating candidate appeals of examination ratings;

          May be called upon to explain or defend orally or in writing all decisions made relative to an oral examination.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the standard procedures used in rating a candidate's performance during an oral examination; thorough knowledge of the occupational field for which an examination is being conducted; ability to objectively evaluate oral or written responses to questions in the examiner's occupational field; ability  to elicit maximum response from oral examination candidates by appropriate follow-up questioning; judgment; tact; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Verifiable expertise in the occupational field or area for which an examination is being held.
