DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class either supervises the work of a data entry unit or acts as an intermediate supervisor under a Data Entry Supervisor.  The incumbent is responsible for planning and scheduling the work as well as for its rapid and accurate production.  When in charge of a unit, the employee exercises general, statistical and accounting controls over the unit's activities, and may supervise one or more Senior Data Entry Opera­tors.  Performance is reviewed for conformity to instructions or established procedures.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            May supervise a data entry unit or assist a Data Entry Supervisor in performing supervisory duties;

            Assigns and reviews the work of the Data Entry Operators to ensure smooth work flow and avoid duplication of effort;

            Maintains the control register to record work received for the unit; keeps daily production records for each operator as well as monthly totals; keeps time sheets;

            May operate data entry equipment;

            Recommends changes for more efficient production and assists in implement­ing them.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the methods and equipment used in the process of data entry; thorough knowledge of general office practices and procedures; skill in the operation of data entry equipment; ability to supervise in a manner condu­cive to full performance and high morale; ability to maintain personnel, produc­tion, and control records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equiva­lency diploma and four (4) years of experience as a data entry operator in a data processing unit.

           

Note:  Additional experience as a data entry operator may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

           

            PROMOTIONAL

            Two (2) years permanent competitive status as a Senior Data Entry Operator.
