DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee
in this class either supervises the work of a data entry unit or acts as an
intermediate supervisor under a Data Entry Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for planning and
scheduling the work as well as for its rapid and accurate production. When in charge of a unit, the employee exercises
general, statistical and accounting controls over the unit's activities, and
may supervise one or more Senior Data Entry Operators. Performance is reviewed for conformity to
instructions or established procedures.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
May supervise a data
entry unit or assist a Data Entry Supervisor in performing supervisory duties;
Assigns and reviews the
work of the Data Entry Operators to ensure smooth work flow and avoid
duplication of effort;
Maintains the control
register to record work received for the unit; keeps daily production records
for each operator as well as monthly totals; keeps time sheets;
May operate data entry
equipment;
Recommends changes for
more efficient production and assists in implementing them.

CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the methods and
equipment used in the process of data entry; thorough knowledge of general
office practices and procedures; skill in the operation of data entry
equipment; ability to supervise in a manner conducive to full performance and
high morale; ability to maintain personnel, production, and control records;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a standard senior high
school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years
of experience as a data entry operator in a data processing unit.
Note: Additional experience as a data entry
operator may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years permanent competitive
status as a Senior Data Entry Operator.
