DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee
in this class participates in the development of procedures and the maintenance
of technical control of the work and participates directly in the machine
operation. Work includes assisting in the development of production schedules
and designing and implementing new procedures for machine operations.
Supervision may be exercised over a small number of equipment operators. Work
is performed with relative technical independence and is supervised by an
administrative superior who instructs the employee as to the departmental needs
and checks for the maintenance of production schedules. Does related work as
required.
Develops production schedules for work projects and schedules
or assigns work accordingly;
Operates peripheral data processing equipment such as small computers,
printers, forms bursters and other related equipment;
Plans and implements new applications of data processing according to
the needs of the department or jurisdiction;
Makes minor adjustments to data processing equipment;
May supervise a small number of equipment operators.
May assist in training of lower-level personnel.

ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the operation of
typical peripheral equipment; thorough knowledge of the capabilities of typical
data processing equipment; good knowledge of the care and adjustment of
peripheral equipment; good knowledge of standard offices methods, practices and
techniques; skill in the operation of all typical peripheral equipment; ability
to operate a variety of data processing equipment and to make minor adjustments
to the machines; ability to work under the pressure of a deadline; ability to
follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively both
orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma and two (2) years experience in operating peripheral data processing
equipment.
PROMOTIONAL
One (1) year permanent competitive status as a Data Processing Equipment
Operator.
