DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general
supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for supervision and
coordination of all work of a unit responsible for data entry, generation of
reports and conversion of files through use of specialized systems. The
employee has overall responsibility for organizing, reviewing and directing the
work and activities of subordinate personnel as well as exercising general,
statistical and accounting controls over the work. Work is subject to review by
Administrative personnel through periodic reports and conformance to time
schedules. Does related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Plans, directs
and reviews the work performed by the operators in a data entry unit;
Organizes work
schedules and issues job assignments;
Oversees the
Benefit Issuance Control Subsystem (BICS);
Makes equipment
and software recommendations as it relates to data processing;
Reviews all
completed work for accuracy and completeness before it is dispatched to
appropriate divisions;
Directs and
coordinates the flow of work within a data processing unit;
Assists
programmer staff in the modification of report system parameters;
Assists in the
purchasing of IT equipment relevant to data processing;
Assists in
planning new procedures and methods for the data entry unit;
Assists in
interviewing, evaluating and instructing job applicants;
Maintains
production log of work status, prepares periodic reports, and maintains
equipment file;
Maintains liaison
with user departments to assure constant and accurate flow of source material;
May operate data
entry equipment if necessary.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Comprehensive
knowledge of the methods and equipment used in the process of data entry;
thorough knowledge of general office practices and procedures; skill in the
operation of data entry equipment and systems; ability to plan, assign,
supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel in a manner conducive
to full performance and high morale; ability to maintain personnel, production
and control records; ability to develop and maintain effective working
relationships with coworkers and superiors; ability to express oneself clearly
and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to prepare reports.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a standard senior
high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and seven
(7) years of experience as a data entry
operator, two years of which were at a
supervisory level.
PROMOTIONAL
Three (3) years of permanent
competitive status as a Principal Data Entry Operator.
