DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class utilizes a broad range of media to create charts, graphs, diagrams or other methodology to more effectively present evidentiary or instructional items in court, before a Grand Jury or at training/educational programs. Supervision is provided by an Assistant District Attorney or a police supervisor, who reviews the finished product and provides assistance as needed. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Suggests alternative graphical methods of presenting evidentiary, educational or training materials in discussion with an Assistant District Attorney or an investigating detective;
Makes recommendations
regarding which method will be the most effective media given the purpose of
the presentations and nature of material;
Suggests and prepares
diagrams, charts, composite sketches, computer animations, photographic,
video and/or powerpoint presentations to be used as demonstrative courtroom
exhibits or as instructional aids for educational or training programs;
Produces photospreads
and other documents used for purposes of identification;
Identifies, evaluates,
and recommends purchase/lease of presentation equipment in various media and is
responsible for its maintenance and security;
Transports, sets up,
operates, and trains others in the operation of equipment needed to present
graphic displays;
Maintains image
databases and inventory of equipment.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of computer
spreadsheets, databases, drawing and design applications, as well as
demonstrable layout skills for floor plans, charts and other diagrams; good
knowledge of and ability to operate computer and video presentation equipment
such as LCD projectors, digital and video cameras, VCR’s, as well as
traditional audio and video equipment such as tape recorders, movie, opaque,
overhead and slide projectors; ability to translate concepts into graphic
presentations; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally
and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a standard senior high
school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma recognized by the New
York State Department of Education, and two (2) years of experience in computer
graphics or commercial art drafting plans, maps, charts or diagrams.
NOTE: Additional education in the field of computer
graphics or commercial art will be substituted for up to one (1) year of
experience.
