DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class supervises and partici­pates in the creation of computer graphics utilizing various software packages.  Supervision is exercised over technical and clerical employees involved in computer graphics and printing services.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Supervises and participates in the more difficult computer graphics projects;

          Schedules the work of printshop personnel and oversees the quality of final printing;

          Analyzes data to determine applicability of computer graphics to project;

          Meets with clients to discuss requests;

          Determines most appropriate software; makes the more complex modifications as needed;

          Produces prints, transparencies and low resolution slides;

          Researches new equipment and software packages; attends appropriate semi­nars and workshops;

          Maintains inventory and orders graphics supplies;

          Maintains records of all projects requested and completed; provides billing information;

          Prepares the annual budget for the unit.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of graphics software packages; thorough knowledge of setting up graphs; good knowledge of operating a personal computer; good knowl­edge of the operation, limitations and adaptabilities of offset duplicating equipment and machinery; ability to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to maintain records; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to maintain records and prepare written reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          OPEN COMPETITIVE

          Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and three (3) years experience in computer operation utilizing computer graphics.

NOTE:  Additional education in the field of computer graphics will be substituted for up to one (1) year of experience.

 

          PROMOTIONAL

          Two (2) years of permanent competitive status as a Computer Graphics Technician.
