DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee
in this class has responsibility for evaluation, selection and installation of
commercially packaged software. The
incumbent determines and defines data requirements for the ultimate integration
of various data processing systems into a total management system. Supervision is provided by a technical or
administrative supervisor through conferences and reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Meets with end users to determine their
information needs;
Evaluates commercially packaged
software;
Recommends, installs and maintains
software;
Modifies existing programs to
accommodate changing needs;
Downloads programs from mainframe to
microcomputers;
Provides training to users of word
processing systems and other commercial packages.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,
ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of commercial
software packages, including word processing, desktop publishing and graphics
packages; good knowledge of principles and methods of application and
familiarity with data processing hardware; ability to prepare comprehensive and
detailed written and oral reports; ability to express oneself clearly, both
orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with clerical, technical and managerial personnel; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation
from a regionally accredited or New York State registered College with an
Associate's Degree and two (2) years of experience in evaluating and/or
installing commercial software packages.
NOTE: Additional experience in the evaluation
and/or installation of commercial software packages may be substituted for
education on a year-for- year basis.
