An employee in
this class has responsibility for the administrative oversight within the
Suffolk County Department of Information Technology Services, including
management of centralized functions, coordination of departmental needs and
development of data processing policy for the County in conjunction with
representatives of the
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Directs a staff responsible for the maintenance and reconfiguration of existing systems, the development of new systems and subsequent training for users, and the evaluation of evolving technological advances in the field of information processing;
Directs the development of an organizational structure which promotes standardization and coordination of systems in an effort to achieve maximum efficiency and to provide network accessibility for various users;
Serves as a liaison with the
Develops, implements and enforces
policies and procedures for the administration of the division;
Coordinates requests from various
departments for assistance with automating office functions;
Oversees the setting of priorities
to meet data processing demands on a timely basis;
Works with representatives of the
Maintains administrative control
over the staffs of units responsible for systems applications, technical
support services, computer operations, office systems and systems programming.

Comprehensive knowledge of the
administration of management information and office systems; comprehensive
knowledge of the methods and techniques of office management, organization and
supervision; comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public
administration; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a large
staff in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to
analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at recommendations and
conclusions; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and
in writing; ability to analyze operations and anticipate and plan for future
changes; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
department heads and County administration; physical condition commensurate
with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's
Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Computer Science or
Information Technology plus eight (8) years of administrative experience in office
information technology systems and operations.
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent
competitive status as a Data Processing Manager.
