DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class researches property titles for ownership verification, including simple title searches within the Real Property Tax Service Agency.  The incumbent is also responsible for plotting metes and bounds in order to record available property, and makes minor adjustments to the Real Property Tax Map.  Work is subject to close supervision, and is reviewed by supervisors upon completion both for content and accuracy.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Performs research and verification of property title ownerships using computerized databases, microfilm and/or microfiche;

            Performs simple property title searches;

            Gathers, prepares and reviews real property and mortgage data from the computerized Real Property Information System and other sources;

            Plots metes and bounds information from Torrens certificates;

            Updates and revises minor parcel changes to Real Property Tax Map using specialized equipment and software;

            Copies tax maps using specialized copier and other office equipment;

            Sorts, indexes and files maps, documents and other material.

           

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Good knowledge of mapping, property transfers, appraisals or assessments; good knowledge of map drafting and property title searching; good knowledge of computer graphics software and equipment; good knowledge of general and legal office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to use computerized databases, microfilm and/or microfiche readers; ability to keep records; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN-COMPETITIVE

            Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and two (2) years of technical or clerical   experience with a real estate office, mortgage company, title company, engineering firm, architectural firm, land surveyor or governmental agency that involves mapping, property transfers, real estate appraisals, assessments, civil engineering, architecture, zoning inspection or site plan review.

 

            NOTE:

            Additional education may be substituted for the above two (2) years of technical or clerical experience.
