DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct supervision, an employee in this class
is responsible for assisting in research and statistical studies by gathering
technical information and data for use and analysis by higher level research
and planning personnel. The incumbent
works closely with superiors in learning all aspects of work, but may function
with limited technical independence on the more routine aspects of work as the
incumbent becomes familiar with them.
Work is reviewed by professional research personnel through frequent
conferences and observation of work performed.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists
in research studies by gathering background data and preparing statistical
comparisons;
Prepares
graphs, tables and maps, and compiles data to outline the results of particular
studies;
May work
with Data Processing personnel to assist in converting data to computer
compatible format;
Assists
in preparing statistical reports describing methods of collecting and
correlating data used in research studies;
Employs
comparative methods to analyze and isolate critical data, facts and
information;
May work
with the general public in providing statistical information.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working
knowledge of research methods and statistical techniques; working knowledge of
analysis and preparation of statistical reports; ability to isolate and
identify data and statistics needed in evaluation studies; ability to prepare
graphs, tables and maps; ability to learn computer software programs, and apply
to statistical research and analysis; ability to express oneself clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with supervisors and other personnel associated
with research studies; ability to comprehend and follow oral and written
instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a)
Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or
university with a Bachelor's Degree; or,
(b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or the possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of experience in the development and conduct of managerial and operational research studies; or,
(c)
An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits
of (a) and (b).
