DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under the general direction of the head of the Budget Review Office of the Legislature, an employee in this class performs economic analyses of general and specific factors affecting the operations of Suffolk County government.  Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed through conferences and reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Performs economic studies focusing on factors relating to the Suffolk County operating budget and capital budget, including analyses of debt service, sales tax, property tax, and other revenues; 

          Compares revenues to expenditures; 

          Performs extensive economic analyses for special projects, such as the design of a debt model for Suffolk County; 

          Assists with drafting resolutions and local laws; 

          Attends committee and legislative meetings. 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of microeconomics, macroeconomics and quantitative analysis; knowledge of current literature and data sources with regard to economic analysis; initiative in developing research methods and selecting data sources; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to analyze technical factual data; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          OPEN COMPETITIVE

          Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master's Degree in Economics or Business Administration and three (3) years of experience in economic research and/or analysis. 

 

NOTE:  Additional education may be substituted for up to two years of the above

            experience.
