DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for obtaining
information regarding children residing in the school district, as required by
the Education Law. The incumbent in
this class may work in an office compiling information obtained from completed
census forms or may be required to contact residents of the district through
phone calls or personal interviews. Records are continually updated as
residents move in or out of the district.
Work is subject to direct supervision and is reviewed by superiors upon
completion for accuracy and completeness.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Mails census forms to
residents of the school district and prepares a report based upon information
obtained from completed forms;
Contacts residents of
the district through phone calls or personal interviews to determine name,
address, age, sex and birth date of children between birth and age eighteen;
Maintains records of
people who move into or out of the district from information obtained from the
individual schools;
Compiles a listing of
children who may be expected to attend kindergarten the following year;
Compares completed
census records with attendance lists from all public and private schools in the
district and advises the appropriate authorities of individuals who are not
attending school;
May complete a Census
Project as required by the State Education Department;
Compiles a school
district mailing list based upon census results.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Some knowledge of the geography of the school district; ability to deal
with the public in a tactful and courteous manner; ability to express oneself
clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to follow written and
oral instructions; ability to prepare simple oral and written reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
There are no minimum
education or experience requirements for t his position.
