DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The duties of this position involve inquiring into and establishing a list of those individuals owning or harboring dogs.  Under general supervision an employee in this class is responsible for preparing a list indicating the name and address of owners and the number and sex of the dogs including, those in kennels.  The work includes leaving a license application blank and notifying owners that a license must be obtained.  In accordance with Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets Law this employee is required to file an alphabetically prepared list with the Clerk annually.  This employee is responsible for appending an affidavit to the list in a specified form before it is submitted.  The enumerator works with relative independence but must follow specific guidelines regarding form and time limits as defined by law.  Does related work as required.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Files certified copy of town resolution or ordinance (indicating enumerators can make inquiry) with the Commissioner when necessary;

            Ascertains by dwelling to dwelling inquiry those persons harboring dogs;

            Prepares a list of those persons harboring dogs indicating name and addresses of owner and number and sex of dogs;

            Notifies owner that license must be obtained and leaves license application blank;

            Files an alphabetically prepared list with the Town Clerk annually;

            Appends an affidavit to each list before filing.

 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Some knowledge of geography of a district; some knowledge of Section 108, Article 7 of the Agriculture and Markets Law; ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; ability to follow written and oral instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
