DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under
general supervision, an employee in this class supervises the operation,
maintenance and utilization of a large number of buildings
used by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services. The incumbent acts as liaison between Health
Services and the Department of Public Works and supervises a professional and
clerical staff. Supervision is received
from an administrative superior through conferences and oral and written
reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises the operation and
maintenance of the county’s drug clinics, mental health clinics, and Department
of Health Services job site buildings in compliance with sanitary code and
safety regulations.
Procures
appropriate accommodations for employees and patients when renovations are
being done on Department of Health Services facilities.
Assists
in preparation of Capital Projects requests and acts as liaison between the
Department of Health Services, the Department of Public Works, and/or
landlords.
Review
lease agreements to assess whether the County, landlord, or subcontractor is
responsible for maintenance
Prepares
service requests and purchase order requests for necessary repairs
Receives
and acts on telephone service requests, building service requests and space
assignment requests.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the Suffolk County Sanitary code and
applicable State and Federal laws and regulations for clinic operations; good
knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of building
space analysis; good knowledge of those functions of the Departments of Health
Services and Public Works, as they relate to building operation and
maintenance; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and
in writing; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with County
officials, superiors, subordinates and the public; ability to supervise the
work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
ability to analyze data and prepare concise and comprehensive reports; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a)
Completion of sixty (60) college credits at a New York State or
Regionally accredited college and three (3) years of administrative
experience in facilities or property management; or
(b) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience as described in (a) above; or,
(c)
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits
of (a) and (b).
