PROJECTS SUPERVISOR 0752
Under
general direction, an employee in this class oversees the development,
implementation and administration of special projects within the Department of
Public Works. The incumbent must be able
to address widely diversified projects and is expected to exercise independent judgment
and initiative. Work is reviewed by administrative supervisors through
conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
Assists in the development and
implementation of special projects that directly affect the Department of
Public Works or a division thereof;
Oversees special project functions
within a division and makes recommendations related to these areas to insure
the effectiveness and efficiency of those operations;
Analyzes the effectiveness of
various projects and makes revisions as necessary to increase efficiency,
effectiveness and responsiveness;
Reviews
departmental programs and policies to assess their effectiveness for
determining programmatic and policy alternatives;
Works closely with the Executive and
Legislative branches of government of various municipalities to allow the
department’s programs and policies to be clearly understood and carried out as
intended;
Oversees consultant personnel and
resources employed for projects.
Thorough knowledge
of the principles and techniques utilized in planning and implementing special
assignments; thorough knowledge of the administrative structure underlying
large—scale programs and facilities; thorough knowledge of the principles,
practices and procedures of construction contract administration; ability to establish
and maintain satisfactory relationships with labor representatives, government
officials, regulators and the general public; ability to plan, organize and
supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high
morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing; ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
OPEN COMPETITIVE
(a)
Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university
with a Bachelor’s Degree and eight (8) years of administrative experience in
public works projects; or
(b)
Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma, and twelve (12) years of administrative experience in public works
projects; or
(C)
An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits
of (a) and (b).
