NETWORK
AND SYSTEMS COORDINATOR 0762
An employee in this class is responsible for the
development, implementation, coordination and administration of various information
management systems and networks in a Non-County jurisdiction. The incumbent develops policies and
procedures for determining the need for these systems, and supervises personnel
who are responsible for the evaluation, selection and operation of information
technology equipment and systems. The
work is performed under general supervision, and is reviewed through
conferences and consultation for the achievement of desired results. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Coordinates
and supervises the collection of data, evaluates the efficiency of productivity
in the office environment, and determines the justification for automation of
manual procedures and upgrading of existing information technology;
Determines
the system design that will best improve the input-output ratio of office
productivity, and recommends the appropriate system configuration;
Acts
as a liaison with outside information technology staff to develop new and/or
modified information technology procedures;
Supervises
personnel engaged in the design and implementation of departmental networks and
systems;
Develops
specifications for the procurement of goods and services from outside
contractors, evaluates and recommends those contracts providing the most
effective and cost effective product or
service;
Maintains
responsibility for the design and management of performance reporting, and the
annual review and modification of budgets relative to installation of
departmental systems;
Reviews
and modifies budgets relative to system installation;
May
develop new and/or revised information technology procedures;
May
develop implementation schedules including the coordination of hardware
procurement, installation, user training and data conversion.

Comprehensive knowledge of information technology
including systems and networks; thorough knowledge of systems analysis as it
applies to the scientific methods of modern organizations, management and
planning techniques and practices; good knowledge of the principles and
practices of public administration and budgeting; good knowledge of the
capabilities and limitations of information technology; good knowledge of
current literature, sources of information, and recent developments in the
field of information technology; ability to supervise a staff in a manner
conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself
clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; good judgment; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Either:
A) Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree
which includes, or is supplemented by, twelve (12)
credits in Information Technology or a computer related field, and six (6)
years of experience in the analysis, design and/or selection of information
technology networks and systems; or,
B)
Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school
equivalency diploma, and ten (10) years of experience in the analysis, design
and/or selection information technology networks and systems; or
C)
An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits
of A) and B).
NOTE: Coursework in information technology from a non-degree-granting
computer training institution may be accepted based upon credit hour
equivalence.
SPECIAL NOTE: Because of the rapid evolution of technology in this
field, five (5) years of the qualifying experience must have been gained within
the last six (6) years.
PROMOTIONAL
Two
(2) years of permanent competitive status as a Network and Systems
Administrator.
