DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists in the analysis of data and preparation of reports for the Suffolk County Executive.   Work relates to cost-benefit analyses, budget and policy options, and/or the improvement of operational efficiency and effectiveness, and is performed under close supervision, usually as part of a team.  Assignments and supervision are received from professional or administrative supervisors.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists in the analysis of the fiscal and programmatic effects of County-wide departmental operating and capital budget requests;  

            Participates in team projects by assisting with research, analyses and preparation of reports to the Executive in such areas as organizational structures, cost efficiency and effectiveness, department reorganization impacts, labor agreement proposals, and changes in state funding formulas;

            Collects data and assists with analyzing the data and preparing a written report of findings and recommendations;

            Assists with research studies of departments and operations for the purpose of determining needed modifications and improvements in organizational structure, program design and administrative procedures;

            Researches a variety of issues of importance to the County Executive.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of public administration, public finance and budgeting; working knowledge of the principles of cost-benefit analysis; working knowledge of program evaluation and methods; working knowledge of federal and state grant programs; ability to assist in the conduct of limited studies of government operations and to perform fiscal research; ability to assess the fiscal implication of moderately complex legislation; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. 

           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            Graduation from a college with federally authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree.
