DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class will be responsible for the budgeting, acquisition and distribution of the various multi-media equipment and supplies in an instructional materials center. Other duties include in-service training of the professional and technical staff and of students in the operation of the available equipment. Modification of equipment to suit particular program needs is also performed. Supervision is received from administrative superiors through conferences and written reports and may be exercised over a subordinate staff or technical, clerical and student personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises the production and
reproduction of the various instructional materials such as: videotapes,
slides, recordings and films;
Formulates the
departmental budget annually and submits it for approval to the administration
of the District or County department;
May write
specifications for items to be placed for public bid;
Conducts in-service
training courses for professional and student personnel in the use of
instructional materials equipment;
Meets with
representatives of companies who manufacture, sell and distribute equipment
and supplies in order to select and procure needed materials;
Modifies equipment and
facilities in order to meet the needs of particular programs;
Performs minor repairs
on media equipment when necessary.

CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the equipment and
materials available for use in an instructional materials department or
facility; thorough knowledge of the methods used in modifying and utilizing
media equipment; good knowledge of the methods and procedures used in budget
preparation and equipment purchasing; knowledge of techniques used in the production
of videotapes; ability to conduct training classes in the use of instructional
materials equipment; ability to plan and conduct workshops in the basic
audio-visual production techniques and photographic utilization; ability to
establish and maintain working relationships with both professional and
student personnel; ability to express oneself clearly, both orally and in
writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a New York State or
regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and (3)
three years of technical, administrative, or production experience in the
electronic, audio-visual, television, recording or multi-media fields.
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of
permanent competitive status as an Instructional Materials Coordinator.
