DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS       

An employee in this class assists in providing a coordinated program of technical and resource services in an instructional setting. The incumbent maintains resource libraries such as: films, professional books, educational periodicals, reference guides, video and audio tapes. The employee fills requests for resource materials needed by the staff and processes repair requests for resource materials and equipment. The work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative or technical superior and is reviewed through periodic conferences and observations.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists in maintaining a film and video library and fills requests for these resources for members of the staff;

            Assists in configuring a storage system for resource materials;

            May maintain employee training records;

            Accepts requests for repair of audio-visual equipment and arranges for the repairs to be made;

            Fills requests for periodicals, professional books, video tapes and other instructional materials;

            May receive, record and process requisitions for items included in budget or grant funds and maintain account balances;

            Keeps records of materials used and current inventories of available resources.

           

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Some knowledge of the principles and practices of maintaining an instructional materials center; some knowledge of the methods and practices of ordering, processing and distributing supplies and equipment; ability to organize a storage area for supplies and equipment; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff personnel; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience which includes at least six (6) months in the field of instructional materials or library science.

           

NOTE:    Additional relevant education beyond high school from a New York State or regionally accredited college orf university may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
