DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs fundraising work in a public
library. Responsibility is included for researching
possible donors and planning fundraising events. The incumbent is expected to use some
judgment and initiative in performing duties.
The work is performed under the supervision of an administrative
superior and is reviewed through conferences and written reports. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Identifies potential
corporate foundation and individual donors;
Assists community groups with jointly sponsored
fundraising programs;
Plans special
fundraising events;
Writes and assembles
media materials for distribution;
Coordinates the production
and mailing of year-end appeal letters;
Drafts acknowledgement
letters and other correspondence;
Maintains a file of
donors.

CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of research concepts and methods; ability to write
clear, concise and interesting public information material; ability to assist
in the organizing, planning and directing of fundraising campaigns; ability to
analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library
personnel and the public; ability to
express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
OPEN COMPETITIVE
(a) Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a
Bachelor’s Degree; or,
(b) Graduation from a standard
senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four
(4) years of experience that regularly involved fundraising, marketing or
membership programs; or,
(c) An equivalent combination of
education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
