DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class reviews contracts for compliance with County insurance requirements. Work is performed in the County’s Insurance and Risk Management Division by reviewing contracts for compliance with County insurance requirements.  Work is performed under the supervision of a Senior Insurance Contract Analyst or other administrative supervisor. The incumbent may exercise supervision over a clerical support staff.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Reviews County contracts in the preparatory stage to ensure inclusion of proper insurance clauses and the protection of the County's interests;

            Audits documents submitted by contractors as evidence of compliance with insurance requirements;

            Reviews coverages in insurance policy contracts for subrogation opportunities;

            Reviews County leases for proper insurance coverage and obtains and veri­fies insurance documentation from property owners;

            Issues certificates of insurance as requested by vendors and other government agencies;

            Interprets County collective bargaining agreements for the administration of the County employee disability payroll benefit;

            Negotiates settlements with other insurance carries based on interpretation of coverage and applicable NYS laws;

            Prepares monthly submissions for Workers Compensation insurance subrogation programs with other government agencies.

             

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the insurance field; good knowledge of the County collective bargaining agreement sections pertaining to disability payments; ability to interpret the  language of all County lease contracts; ability to give techni­cal and professional review to a wide variety of insurance contracts; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County departments and various contractors; ability to prepare statistical and technical records and reports; ability to supervise others in a manner conducive to full perfor­mance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by New York State with a Bachelor's Degree, and one (1) year of insurance or risk management experience.
