SENIOR INSURANCE CONTRACT ANALYST 0938
An employee in this class performs complex analysis and
administrative duties relating to the review of insurance contracts for
compliance with County requirements. Work is performed in the Insurance and
Risk Management Unit of the Law Department under the supervision of a Risk
Management Coordinator or other administrative supervisor. The incumbent may
exercise supervision over an Insurance Contract Analyst or clerical support
staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Performs comprehensive review of County contracts, leases and agreements and develops
the necessary insurance specifications for the protection of the County’s
interests;
Assists in procuring excess
insurance coverage for the County;
Reviews all insurance policies and
certificates submitted by contracted vendors and advises Risk Management Coordinator
of significant deviations;
Submits and follows up on all subrogation
and arbitration demands;
Audits documents submitted by
contractors as evidence of compliance with insurance requirements;
Assists in the supervision of a
staff that reviews and controverts claims against the contracts;
Works as a liaison between the Risk
Management Unit and the Department of Audit and Control;
Prepares monthly data reports for the
Conducts an on-going training
program for all County departments to provide instruction on the drawing up of
contracts to include necessary insurance specifications;
Explains County insurance
requirements to contractors and researches feasibility of particular
contractors meeting those requirements.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices involved in
the insurance field; thorough knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of
all types of insurance policies and coverage; good knowledge of the current
developments, literature and sources of information in the insurance field;
ability to give technical and professional review to a wide variety of
insurance contracts; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with County departments and various contractors; ability to
prepare complex statistical and technical records and reports; ability to
supervise others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a college with federally-authorized
accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree, and four (4)
years of non-clerical insurance or risk management experience.
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent
competitive status as an Insurance Contract Analyst.
