FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for the
development, implementation and direction of policies and programs designed to
attract and encourage new business and industry to locate in a
municipality. Work involves contact with
high ranking officials of the public and private sectors of the local
economy. Supervision is exercised over
Industrial Development Assistants and other technical and clerical staff; and
the work is reviewed by the Town Supervisor and Town Board through conferences
and written reports. Does related work
as requires.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Supervises the procurement, compilation, preparation and
presentation of data pertaining to industrial development opportunities;
Initiates contacts with federal,
state, local and private interest to promote potential business resources
within the town;
Assists interested firms in site
selection, explaining building and zoning requirements and obtaining financial
assistance;
Publicizes through the media the
advantages and benefits of conducting business locally;
Directs the preparation and
presentation of reports regarding available industrial property, labor force
and composition, transportation facilities, financing and other pertinent
commercial and industrial data.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the land, labor and financial
resources of a town and their influence in attracting business and industry;
thorough knowledge of methods and techniques used in the promotion of local
business development and relocation; ability to promote and maintain good
public relations with public officials and the business community; ability to
plan, supervise and review the work of others in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale; ability to prepare comprehensive reports, statistical
analyses, and promotional presentations and to convincingly present them to
corporate executives, business professionals and government officials; ability
to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a college with federally-authorized
accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Business
Administration or Marketing, and six (6) years of administrative experience in
business organization, planning, marketing or advertising.

Two years of permanent competitive
status as an Assistant Town Director of Economic Development.
