DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for
developing a comprehensive marketing and public relations program designed to
promote Suffolk County as a desirable business location. Work is performed under the supervision of
the department head and is reviewed through reports and conferences. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Develops programs to promote
Suffolk County, through various print and broadcast media, as a premiere
business location;
Assists the department
head in developing goals and objectives for the staff; meets with staff to
communicate this information;
Establishes and maintains
contact with community groups including business and environmental
representatives;
May represent the
department at meetings and public relations appearances;
May supervise subordinate
staff.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public
relations and marketing as they relate to local business development and
relocation; thorough knowledge of the role of government in the development of
the economy; thorough knowledge of the current economy and it future outlook;
thorough knowledge of the land, labor, and financial resources of the area and
their value to business and industry; good knowledge of the specific
regulations and needs of the various Towns and Villages within the County;
ability to promote and maintain good public relations with public officials,
business and community groups; ability to prepare comprehensive reports and
promotional presentations and to effectively present them to various public
officials, businesses and community groups; ability to plan and direct the work
of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a New York State
or Regionally accredited college or
university with a Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years experience in
advertising, marketing, finance, area development, or business management.
NOTE:
Additional education may be substituted for experience on a
year-for-year basis.
