DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists in the coordination of all phases of town solid waste management.  Work involves the performance of inspections to insure compliance with regulatory agency mandates and adherence to all construction requirements.  Work is performed under the general direction of the Solid Waste Coordinator.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists in planning, organizing and directing the activities of the solid waste program;

            Coordinates accounts payable, monitors purchase orders and invoices, assists with program evaluation;

            Assists Solid Waste Coordinator with information management tasks, including meeting federal, state and local reporting requirements; track recycling/garbage rates; produce monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc reports on recycling rates and garbage production;

            Assists in scheduling duties of employees and coordinating daily pick-ups, responds to written and verbal inquiries;

            Researches recycling  market, assists in implementation of recycling programs.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of construction specifications and of their application to public works projects; good knowledge of engineering mathematics; good knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws pertaining to the disposal and monitoring of solid waste; skill in the use of engineering instruments and equipment; ability to secure compliance by appropriate parties with the contract and specifications governing the cooperative agreement; ability to analyze data and evaluate alternatives; ability to prepare technical reports and communicate effectively with colleagues and government officials; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN-COMPETITIVE

            Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience in civil engineering or solid waste management
