DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class receives assignments requiring the application of industrial engineering skills on various projects to improve government operations and processes.  Assignments are received with general instructions, but incumbents use their own judgment and initiative in the solution of problems.  Work is reviewed by a Senior Industrial Engineer through conferences and progress reports.  Does related work as required. 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Conducts industrial engineering studies to streamline government operations;  

            Recommends new performance opportunities and alternative organizational models;  

            Investigates and analyzes departments’ operations to identify issues with current policies, procedures and practices to recommend context for improvement;

            Researches departments’ data and organization charts to recommend modifications to work flow and offer solutions to reduce redundancy and improve efficiency.

             

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of industrial engineering; thorough knowledge of the interpretation of organization models; good knowledge of performance appraisal, benchmarking and data-driven decision making; good knowledge of reengineering data structures and developing tools for measuring work; ability to present reports clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, the staff and the public; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Either:

            Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Business, Public Administration, Economics, Industrial Psychology, or related discipline and four (4) years of experience in researching, analyzing and developing plans for improved operations and productivity.
