DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under direct supervision, an employee in this class receives training while assisting professional supervisors and construction representatives in the repair and maintenance of instrumentation and motor control systems requiring the application of electrical and mechanical technology.  The duration of the probation period is anywhere from one year to a maximum of two years, during which time the incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a supervised in-service training program.  Upon successful completion of the program, an employee with continuous service as a permanent competitive Instrumentation Technician Trainee achieves permanent competitive status as an Instrumentation Technician without further examination. Areas of training include:

(1)    Pneumatic and mechanical instrumentation and motor control systems

(2)    Basic electronics

(3)    Electrical instrumentation maintenance

(4)    Fundamentals of digital logic

(5)    Digital systems maintenance

(6)    Variable (proportioning) controllers

As experience is gained and training is successfully completed, the incumbent will perform duties with greater independence.  Does related work as required.
