DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves largescale printing of maps and plans using a Diazo process whiteprinter.  Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for serving the printing needs of two or more large design and construction divisions.  He performs routine repairs on the Diazo equipment and maintains it as required.  He assists design engineers in the preparation of new standard originals by assembling details on a master and making a mylar reproducible.  He is responsible for establishing and maintaining a storage and filing system wherein plans and maps prepared by the Department and necessary to its operation, are preserved and readily accessible to all users.  Performs related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Operates Diazo process whiteprinter print machine;

          Makes mylar, sepia, cloth and paper copies of design drawings on various square and rectangular sizes and also on rolls;

          Maintains a storage and filing system for maps and plans;

          Researches and assembles sections of maps, splices appropriate areas and prepares prints for drafting and engineering purposes;

          May research tax maps to locate properties by lot and section numbers;

          May research deeds to locate specific properties by liber and page;

          Meets with the public for the sale and purchasing of maps and arranges the transfer and receipt of maps and plans between other County agencies and outside firms;

          Maintains and makes routine repairs on Diazo equipment;

          Maintains a microfilm record of all plans and drawings;

          Keeps this file current by having all new drawings microfilmed.

 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the operation, limitations, and adaptabilities of blueprinting equipment and machinery; thorough knowledge of paper chemicals and related printing materials; detailed knowledge of machine adjustments required for blueprint duplicating work; good knowledge in the reading of plans and maps; general knowledge of property deeds and descriptions; general knowledge of microfilming; overall knowledge of various maps available throughout the County; ability to perform skilled work in the preparation of maps and material for blueprinting; ability to maintain routine records and to submit reports; ability to carry out oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

          OPEN COMPETITIVE

          Three years experience maintaining a storage and filing system of highway and construction maps and plans, one of which must have included the operation,

maintenance and minor repair of map printing equipment and machinery; and

          One year of experience assisting professional engineers or architects with their printing requirements.

 

NOTE:  One year of training in a vocational program specifically relating to map printing may be substituted for the map printing experience.
