DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class performs specialized drafting work in the preparation of architectural drawings and plans from rough sketches, makes cost and material estimates and prepares renderings of building projects.  Work involves knowledge of architectural and engineering theory and mathematics, as well as thorough knowledge of drafting techniques.  The work differs from that of an Architectural Drafter I in that the incumbent receives the more advanced and difficult drafting problems requiring more advanced skills.  Assignments are received from technical supervisors who review completed work for adherence to established standards and accuracy of work.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Prepares drawings, plans and designs of building projects from rough sketches and specifications;

            Utilizes AUTO CAD software;

            Draws interior and exterior elevations, floor plans and site plans of proposed buildings and for modification of existing structures;

            Details portions of plans regarding masonry, iron and mill work;

            Prepares earth work specifications for site preparation and completion;

            Checks shop drawings for accuracy and continuity;

            Confers with technical and professional supervisors regarding problems and new projects.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of architectural drawing; good knowledge of mathematics; some knowledge of building materials and the techniques of design and construction; skill in the use of drafting instru­ments and equipment; skill in the use of AUTO CAD software; ability to perform difficult computations, to make material and cost estimates, and to compile data and statistics; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; physical condition commensu­rate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

            Either:

            (a) Completion of sixty (60) credit hours toward a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, and two (2) years experience as an architectural drafter; or,

           

            (b) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with an Associate's Degree in Applied Science with a major in Drafting, and two (2) years experience as an architectural drafter; or,

           

            (c) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of experience as an architectural drafter; or,

           

            (d) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b) and (c).

 

            PROMOTIONAL

            Two (2) years of permanent competitive status as an Architectural Drafter I.
