FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Work
involves performing specialized drafting work in the field of mapping and
mapping related functions. An employee in this class performs technical
drafting work in the maintenance of the County Property Map, Real Property Tax
Map, road record map and GIS maps.
Plotting may be performed by mathematical computations to tie the
parcels of land in the current geographic system. Assignments
are received from a technical supervisor who reviews completed work for
adherence to established standards and for accuracy of work. Does related work
as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Translates deed descriptions, survey notes
and other information for the plotting and mapping of the County Property Map, Real
Property Tax Map, road record map and GIS maps;
Performs
mathematical computations to plot, by coordinates, housing development
subdivisions for the County Property Map, County Property Tax Map, and for the
road record map;
Creates new maps utilizing computerized
geographic information systems;
Makes any required corrections on records in
the appropriate software and platform.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of
the methods, practices and procedures of map drafting; good knowledge of
geometry and trigonometry, as they pertain to drafting; some knowledge of the
principles and practices of surveying; some knowledge of Lambert projections as
applied to State Coordinate Systems; skill in the use of drafting instruments,
computer equipment, and
various drafting platforms; ability to read
and interpret various maps, graphs, charts, plans and survey notes; ability to
make computations quickly and accurately; ability to understand and follow
complex oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a standard senior high
school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years experience
as a drafter, at least one (1) year of which must have been as a map drafter.
NOTE: Relevant
education from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State (which includes course work in drafting, surveying or cartography)
will be substituted for the general drafting experience on a year-for-year
basis. Candidates must possess the one (1) year of specific experience as a map
drafter.
Coursework in
drafting, surveying or cartography from a non-degree-granting institution may
be accepted based upon credit hour equivalence.
Candidates must possess the one (1) year of specific experience as a map
drafter.
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent competitive
status as a Drafter I or Real Property Recorder III; or
Four (4) years of permanent
competitive status as a Real Property Recorder II.
