DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general
supervision, an employee in this class receives assignments which require the
application of professional architectural skills and knowledges to moderately difficult
building design and renovation
projects. Work includes
reviewing of plans submitted by consulting architects for conformance to
departmental specifications.
Supervision may be exercised over a staff of technical and clerical
personnel. Work is reviewed by an
administrative supervisor through discussions and inspections, principally for
determining general progress and adherence to departmental policies and
regulations. Does related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Supervises and participates in the
preparation of architectural plans, cost estimates, and contract specifications for the construction of
County buildings and related projects;
Reviews plans submitted by
consulting architects for conformance to County specifications;
Prepares cost estimates;
Recommends revisions and/or approval
of plans submitted;
Supervises and participates in the
inspection of buildings under construction by various contractors;
Passes for the County on completion
of each phase of construction;
Prepares estimates and submits
recommendations on the amount of money due contractor each month.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture; thorough knowledge
of the planning, design and
construction of public buildings; good knowledge of modern developments,
current literature and sources of information in the field of architecture;
food knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to the
construction and renovation of buildings; ability to plan, design and prepare architectural plans and specifications;
ability to perform engineering
computations and to make comprehensive recommendations on architectural
problems; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a New York State or
Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in
Architecture or Architectural Technology, and seven (7) years of architectural
experience, two (2) years of which must have been as a licensed architect.
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent
competitive status as an Assistant Architect or Building Project Coordinator;
and, possession of a professional architect's license issued by New York State
at the time of appointment.
NECESSARY
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Candidates must
have a professional architect's license issued by New York State at the time of
appointment; license must be maintained throughout employment in this title.
