FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs professional landscape architecture in the preparation of reports, recommendations and environmental impact statements for municipal projects. The incumbent prepares site studies of landscape projects compiling site conditions with proposed land features and structures, reviews and inspects the construction work in progress to insure compliance with the landscape specifications, approves the quality of material and work, and advises outside concerns on the landscape features. Supervision is exercised over a technical and clerical staff. Work is reviewed through written reports, site studies and the inspection of completed projects. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Evaluates and designs landscape
projects for public properties and parks;
Prepares reports, recommendations
and environmental impact statements on landscape projects;
Prepares site plans, working
drawings, specifications and cost estimates for land development, showing
ground contours, vegetation, location of structures and such facilities as
roads, walkways, parking areas, fences, walls and utilities;
Inspects and reviews site work in
progress to insure compliance with landscape specifications, to approve the
quality of materials used and work performed, and to advise outside contractors
and their personnel of landscape features;
Coordinates the arrangement of
existing and proposed land features with architects and administrative
personnel.

PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape architecture planning,
design and construction; thorough knowledge of modern landscape construction
methods and materials; thorough knowledge of planting and environmental
conditions required for maximum aesthetic affect, with minimum detriment to the
environment; good knowledge of the laws and codes applicable to landscape
architecture; good knowledge of the modern developments, current literature and
sources of information in landscape architecture; ability to plan and direct
the work of technical and clerical personnel in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale; ability to design and prepare working drawings
and specifications of landscape proposals; ability to express oneself clearly
and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with
the duties of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Graduation from a New York State
or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in
Landscape Architecture, Planning, Civil Engineering or a related field, and
seven (7) years of experience in the planning, design and construction of
landscape architecture, two (2) years of which must have been as a licensed
landscape architect.
NECESSARY
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Candidates must
possess a professional Landscape Architect's license issued by New York State
at the time of appointment. License must be maintained throughout employment in
this title.
